5 Predictions For NFT Gaming
By Josh Bobrowsky
1. Games are free to play
In order to onboard the masses you need to let people try out your new game for free. This may not be true for a few established studios, but for the vast majority of games it will be free to play with the ability to buy things once you are in the game.
2. Most assets in game will cost less than $5
People will not be buying NFTs in games only for pure speculation (although I’m sure there will still be some). The primary reason people will buy in-game items is to use them in game rather than speculation. It is worth noting that the vast majority of NFT sales today are driven by speculation, not use.
Most items will not be high value, many will likely trade for under $5. This means that most games will have to operate in a walled garden without gas fees. No one is going to buy your $3 magic sword if they have to pay $7 in gas.
3. Some games will have high value assets (you own a magic forge that creates best swords) but most won't
There will be a few games that have high value NFTs. My guess is that these items will do something in a game like create magic items, or provide some kind of utility that you can charge other people for your services.
Maybe you have a teleportation machine and you charge everyone that uses it $0.01 to rapidly transport. If 100,000 people a day use your machine you are making $1k a day.
4. People will be able to command large armies with key figures. These will also be high value assets
One of the ways that games will likely cater to whales and guilds is by having high value key figures that are capable of commanding a large army.
Whales in video games drive a substantial amount of value so most NFT games will need to be thoughtful about how to make whales feel powerful and want to keep spending money.
Mobile whales have been known to spend upwards of $50k a day on in-game items that have no resale value. When you bring in the ability to re-sell some items I think it’s very possible this number increases.
5. Clans and guilds will play a massive role in economics and will replace many DAOs
Some of the largest economic plays in Web 3 gaming will be made by large groups of people in guilds. My guess is that guilds will control massive amounts of money that will dwarf the majority of DAOs today.
If a guild is well funded, this gives whales another way to play a large role, you can hire the best gamers, you can buy the best gear and you can work together as a team that may be both socially and economically beneficial.
Conclusion
Video games are going to have full economies that will be the size of small countries. The best games will include some of the brightest minds in economics and gaming. I’m excited for the future of gaming and also very curious to see how things play out.
I now believe we are likely 18-24 months away from the first in-depth gaming experience in Web 3.

I like the idea for anything gaming in the crypto space.. think thats a great area to invest!
Number 5 is very interesting since guilds have been apart of gaming culture for a while and they’ve had to set their own systems and processes up, organically. I think Web3 tools can formalize the behavior that already exists.
