A book worth reading
Burn the Boats by Matt Higgins stood out to me as one of the more exceptional books I have read recently.
The book is the story of Matt, his journey and an open look at the ups and downs of life as he moves from failures to success.
Matt pulls back the curtain of achievement and gives a rare and honest look at what it takes to build a life you are proud of (despite the challenges we all face).
A brief background
For those not familiar with Matt he grew up in poverty, raised by a single mom, dropped out of high school, battled cancer and fought his way to running a successful venture capital firm (RSE Ventures).
You may be familiar with him from his appearance on Shark Tank or his lecture series at Harvard where he co-teaches a class with special guests like Kim Kardashian.
What made this book exceptional
What made Burn the Boats exceptional is not necessarily the story of success, but rather the raw look at how we push through hard times.
Matt gives a honest self evaluation of being human.
Many books function as a highlight reel of an author’s life. Matt focuses on the deeper struggles that shape us into the people we are today; while also looking at who we are meant to become.
Conclusion
Burn the Boats is one of the better books I have read. Matt is impressive in his accomplishments and also in his honesty and willingness to look at some of the harder issues in life.
If you are looking for the next book on business or life to read I would recommend Burn the Boats.
